Hi. I would like help selecting the correct meter for my Hermanns tortoises. I have attached images of some I have found. Also can you explain the numbers for me some say 5 6.5 8 10?
I live in uk so weather isn't the best. so as I understand it as long as the tortoise get 2/3hrs Sun or outside time a week is this enough or should I use uv lights when inside?
Many thanks

The Solarmeter brand is the only one that is really calibrated and built to read the proper wavelength of UVB we are looking for to facilitate D3 production in our tortoises. The 6.5 is the model that does that and gives the UV index reading that we are looking for. The 6.5R is simply the identical model with different graphics on the front and marketed for reptiles.

So the Solarmeter 6.5 or 6.5R is what you want.

Solarmeter 6.5R for me. Wife didn't understand the price but my tortoises are worth it!

In your climate at your latitude, your tortoise can get outside UV in the summer months, but it will need indoor UV for the rest of the year.

Great thanks for all the replies. My husband doesn't understand why I'm crazy about them so I totally agree don't ask don't tell. ;)

Does anyone in UK have a meter and where did you buy it?
