I brought home a lil flowering cactus yesterday and placed it in Delilah's enclosure, to the side of her basking rock. A couple hours later I discovered she had really bonded with the lil cactus :D

LOL, funny you say that because when I first discovered her, she had the cactus tipped on her back. I propped it back up a little before taking the pic.

awww! i think she likes it. can she eat the flowers?

I'm sure she probably could, but she doesn't try. I'm glad because that would only make me worry about her tongue getting pricked

That is an adorable picture. I just don't see how she thinks that's a comfortable position. Crazy tort:D

My sulcata ignores his huge hide and sleeps next to it Aloe cactus. Maybe it's an instinctive security thing.

Has to be instincts. Ever since placing the cactus, she only leaves it to go to her feeding area (which is a long ways away). Then she returns right back to the cactus. It's crazy. Every night she passes out next to the cactus. A couple days I've simply turned out the lights and left her there. A couple other days I've placed her in one of her three hides. Only once did she evade the hide and return to the cactus after being placed. What a strange attraction :p

Same here. I've even moved the cactus and he goes wherever it is.

This is very interesting...

I too have noticed that tortoises prefer to be near plants and vegetation even when they have other hides available that seem "better" to us. My sulcatas have lots of places they could hide in their outdoor pens, but they like to dig in at the bases of plants... Hmmmm...

Cute little Russian. Love that coloration.
