Curious about what species of asian box turtle is the smallest? I've heard some say ambos are one of many that are roughtly around the size of our Americans. But then there is the breaking down of subspecies and localities. Just looming for clarity (more or less) because for space sake I'm considering a species that I can keep indoors, especially if things get chilly outdoors.

Mostly, I am weighing out my options. And being from Texas, certain species of boxes I am restricted on owning (Eastern nominate species being the exception), and would like to perhaps keep and maintain something a bit more exotic.

Thank you.

Thanks. And apologies for the repeated question. It's been ages since I last logged on so forgive me if I haven't been keeping tabs on my threads. But either way, thank you once again.

No worries!

Some time ago it was said that McCords stay under 6 inches, but I don't know any legitimate sources that are still saying this...with proper husbandry, they grow up to 8 inches.

Japanese pond turtles trend the same.

I suppose you would search for established adult males of small size...
