You folks cannot imagine the work that went into this post...

Well... as promissed... a photo essay on a Slovenian farm. These photos were taken by my friend Jim Pether.

This is an amazing place...

The tortoises are very well cared for.

This is the breeding and adult holding facility.

Marginated tortoises which most keepers can only dream of...

picturesjim040.jpg

Hermanns... note the crowd. This kind of relates to another post...

picturesjim041.jpg

They are chowing down on... of all things... an apple... fruit.

picturesjim043.jpg

I had doubts as to where all of the imported Hermanns were comming from. This picture kind of shows that these animals can be mass produced quite easily.

This is the place many only dream of.

Sulcata in Slovenia... gotta make you wonder.

I was very impressed until I got to the sulcata picture. The other pens are great with lots of room and grazing and the animals weren't crowded at all.

I laughed out at the photo of the torties all trying to pig pile on that apple to get their share. :p

So does your friend make a decent profit selling tortoises? Does he document the mortality rate? The Sulcata have smooth, healthy-looking shells, but after reading on here how Sullies males tend to be aggressive with each other and sometimes to their wives and girlfriends, would that not cause some issues with so many in one relatively small space?

Do you keep yours together and do they get along? ;)

That's a neat place. I would do the labor in exchange for a flat there

No they dont look like they are complaing but it could be stressful for many males if there is no getting away from dominant males and i did say it was just my opinion.
