Hi everybody,

I have been a tort owner for around 4 months now, I’ve learned a lot so far and finally have an enclosure, lighting and heat set up that I’m happy with and that fits all requirements suggested by the forum.

Due to the pandemic, I haven’t had the chance to book Turtwig in for a checkup with my exotic specialist, I just thought I’d post some pictures of his shell, plastron etc and see how you all think he is looking!

He is a very active little guy (I’m assuming he is a guy but hey, he could be a lady who knows!) eats well, poops well & to be honest, can be a little sh#%t!

When I first got him I posted a couple pictures and someone had mentioned he had early signs of pyramiding, we decided this was due to how he was started/his previous owner and made necessary changes in regards to humidity. Hopefully this has started to smooth out with the new growth although I know it isn’t a huge issue health wise anyway.

I was also hoping for some confirmation of his subspecies - I know he is Hermanns, and pretty sure he is an Eastern, but doesn’t hurt to have some confirmation!

Anyway, hopefully got all the right angles for you! If you’d like any more pictures let me know.

New growth looks smooth. I'd keep doing what you're doing.

There's rarely a benefit to going to a vet unless there's a problem. If he's growing well, putting on weight, no other issues then I'd say a visit to the vet would only be a waste of money.

Looks like an Eastern Hermann's to me.

Ah thank you! I believe you pointed out the early pyramiding a few months ago so I’m glad you decided to reply!

Great news thank you :)
