Hello. I've viewed the forum for awhile now but I've never posted anything before. I was wondering if anyone could help me sex my red foot. He/she is just over 5" long.

I've also included some pictures of the new enclosure I just built for spike this weekend. Its 6'x4'. Any advice, ideas or pointers to make my red foot happier are always greatly appreciated. I do need to add some more substrate still. Didn't quite have enough for spike to burrow if he wants to.

Thanks for looking and for any comments.

I'm no help on the sexing but your enclosure looks good! Does humidity stay high enough without being covered?

Usually the smaller tail indicates its a female. Also females are typically rounder but since red foots aren't really a "round" type of tortoise, its hard to tell. Also males may have a concave area in the plastron.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I do have a large piece of plastic that covers the left end (when looking at the picture) of the enclosure. I just took it off for the picture. The left end is also raised a couple inches.

I was leaning towards spike being a female but wasn't to positive since she's my first and only tort. I might have to give her a new name... could it be at all possible that She's still to young/small to sex 100% accurately?

I'm no help on the sexing, but just wanted to tell you that I love your enclosure. I especially love the round wood piece, and the fact that you have several hides. Very nice!
