quick question. is the scientific name for aldabran tortoise currently Geochelone gigantea, or Aldabrachelys gigantea?

It's either Dipsochelys or Aldabrachelys dussumieri :)

No as they found out that the holotype of Testudo gigantea was a Yellowfoot tortoise and not an Aldabra tortoise.

The naming of tortoises is going crazy right now! DNA research, better reviews of old holotypes, etc. Lots of stuff going on! The Testudo group is really whacking out now.
