If your buying online use PayPal and not friends and family, either a credit card or Reg PayPal (goods and services/invoices). That way your covered. Obviously I mean use a credit card through PayPal don't give them your credit card numbers. We only want to actually pick one out, pay for it and carry it home. This way we don't get scammed out of our money or get a non healthy tortoise shipped to us. We are in no rush.
Has anyone come across ads for tortoises that were scams ? My son and I really would to have an Aldabra. We can't really afford the dealer prices so we have been checking the web occasionally. We have actually have contacted a couple of people who have Aldabras listed for sale only to realize it's a scam. One wasn't far from me so I told them I'd like to make the drive and pick it up. They said they could only ship and I had to send them the money for the tortoise plus shipping. I think I remember seeing an ad on here not to long ago for Aldabras in Baltimore. I believe it was a scam also and soon it was removed. It's sad people have to be that way. I'm sure some people fall for it and send money but never get a tortoise in return.
That's aweful but at least u were a kind enough soul to save the sulcataSeriously sick sulcata = >$3000 vet bill for feeding tube operations, X-rays, medicine, special diet, barium study, SubQ fluids, repeated out-of-town trips to the specialist, etc.... I can only imagine what vet costs would be for a giant aldabra if something like that happened.
BTW, sulcata is fine now.
This is a very old thread. All of this ticks me off. If you don'y have tortoises to sell, don't try an make money off of people who actually care about them.
