Are there any of the saddleback type Galapagos tortoises in the continental United States?

I was talking with my vet who's a big tortoise guy and he was saying how those types of tortoises are more acclimated to survive in a desert climate than the more common type. Not that I think I would ever have the resources to care for such a tortoise...but just curious, it may just be thrown on my wish list.

Are they in a zoo or other privately owned?

My wife and I went to the San Diego zoo about 2 years ago, I don't remember seeing the saddleback type there, but we will be looking for them the next time we go there!

I know of two sub-adults that are kept in Florida by a private collector. They are pure saddleback galops. They are look oustanding.

Cool, do you know if they are a pair?

I think they are a pair. I searched and found pictures I had taken of them. E-mail me whoever would like me to send them. True saddleback galops.

Me too. I've heard that you're less likely to see Galapagos than you are to see Aldabras mainly because Galapagos need a whole bunch of permits which are near impossible to obtain while the Aldabras are legal in many places.

Some of you probably already know that, but I just wanted to throw that in.

Hey brother, feel free to post that picture I sent you of the saddleback.

can you even keep them as pets?

Yes, I do not know of anyone in the US that has a breeding pair, much less ever had any hatchlings.
