Russian Tortoise Shell Concerns

We are new to owning a tortoise and noticed that he was getting these white separations between his scales over the last week. I thought Mando was just growing but these seem to have gotten bigger, and though I tried to find answers online, there was nothing definitive about what is going on with him.

Would someone have any idea what is going on with our Mando? He'll be 3 years old in August.
