Hello everyone!

Spring time is finally around and my 10 year old Russian tortoise has a new, dark colored, spot on her forehead. I havent noticed them before, but wasn't sure if it was just new growth.

On the other hand, I have read about possible fungal infections. Yet have no idea on identifying such things. Any advice would be wonderful!

The spot is located just on the tip of her head, near her beak.

Thank you,

~ Diver

It looks like it's just a discoloration to me. Have you tried to wash it off? Often their mouths get colored like that from substrate, but in this case that doesn't seem valid.

I will say I think it's adorable!

Hi Diver,

Hope you are well. Just wondering if you have found anymore info on the spot? We are a new tortoise family and I have recently noticed a very similar spot on her head. She appears happy, full of energy and eating plenty. I'll attach a pic too.

Whilst I'm here I hope it's okay to ask a bit more advice. she has quite a lot of dry/shedding skin around her neck. We are bathing her regularly. Is there anything I need to do to help with this?

Thanks for reading and help

There's nothing to do for the shedding. Do not pull on it! It will come off naturally when it's ready, and hopefully will not shed again. But it's a natural process.
