Hello, we have a Russian tortoise that is at least 6 to 7 years old. She has always had free reign of the entire yard and we have had no issues. Recently we noticed a change in her stool and we think she might be eating the berries that are falling from our trees. We are not sure how to curb this behavior. All of our trees our Indian Laurel (ficus nitida). Does anyone have experience with this type of tree and a turtle?

I don’t have any experience with this tree, however, ficus in general are not recommended by The Tortoise Table website. Also Russian torts should not eat fruit due to the high sugar content.

According to my friend, Google, the berries on the Ficus nitida tree are edible.
