How do we keep our tortoises skin from getting too Dry? We soak him often, and humidifiers aren't doing much, any ideas?

What do you mean by “too dry?”

Russians come from an extremely dry climate; they aren’t built for humidity so you are better off on the drier side. He won’t ever have smooth, glowing skin. :)

Any chance your Russian is peeling skin right now? That’s normal but looks a little scary the first time.

I agree with Rosemary.

All animals shed skin. Snakes do it tidily all in one go. Humans do it in tiny bits that become house dust. And tortoises do it in patches that look dry and scaly and look downright tatty pretty regularly.

It needs no potions or treatment. The old, dead skin rubs off as your tort goes about its business.

If your tortoise is being kept in conditions that are too dry, pyramidding is more likely to be a noticeable problem rather than the skin.
