I read online that russian tortoises can have aloe vera but I just wanted to come here and see if anyone here has actually given aloe vera to a Russian tortoise and make sure nobody has had any bad experiences giving a Russian tort aloe vera.

My leooard likes it but it tends to have a laxtive effect so I don't give much or often.
If you are using an aloe plant make sure it hasn't had any fertilisers or pesticides used on it.
Shop bought need to have roots washed, be repotted in chemical free soil, and given at least a year to allow any absorbed chemicals to grow out.
www.thetortoisetable.org.uk has more info on aloe and lots of others plants.

My Greek will take a bite or two but thats it, and it does seem to give him runny poo if he eats any more of it.

My goodness don't you take a bite. I accidentally got some on my hand and before I knew my tongue was coated. I do not know how the torts eat but if they don't I understand

It occurred to me after re-reading this thread that I have two unprotected mature aloe plants in my SA leopard enclosure and radiata enclosure, and they don't touch it. Ever.

I grow several types of aloe in their habitat. I saw one take a nibble once. Otherwise get some Sedum varieties succulents. They Mack that like crazy. Also pansies and sweet alyssum
