I love a happy ending. And it's always so nice when people make the time to find and help an animal. Bouquets to the crew who did all that hard work!

Amazing story! I wonder how thermal imaging worked on a cold-blooded animal.
Cold blooded just means they don't have the ability to produce their own internal body heat.
It's also called poikilothermic, which really means it's body temperature varies considerably according to it's surroundings. It can be hot inside, hotter than us in hot weather, but it can't regulate it's body temperature.
For a tortoise to be active, as we know, it must gain heat from the sun (or our artificial methods).
Thus for a tortoise to be active and for it to digest it's food it will have hot internal organs and blood.
This tortoise was obviously heated up when it was taken from home and it's heat trace would have been higher than it's surroundings, though it would gradually lower until it matched it's environment eventually.
Luckily, it was found before it's internal body heat had completely ebbed away.
