Research into MVBs

Does anyone have any links to articles/research into MVBs and the effect they have on Tortoises/Reptiles?

I don't know of any articles but some members have stopped using them because I believe they seem to have a drying effect on shells and therefore cause pyramiding. I'm sure someone like @Tom will be able to explain in more detail.
I still use one at the moment until I can rethink my electrics, I don't like running several things through an extension lead while I'm not home, but my tort has his own room so it is not just used in a confined space.
