So I've had my baby for a little more than a year now. I never thought I would get a hatchling. I always assumed I would be getting an adult "someday". So my baby is even more of a treasure!
So my question is, how many years before a red foot grows from a newly hatched baby to a full grown adult?

Many things determine growth rates, but to give you an idea here are 5 of my 6 redfoots. All from less than ideal conditions.

In order from head to toe, ages are approximate per previous owners.

Ruby, 2 (F?) 1#9oz
Squirt, 4 (F) 2#6oz
Mango, 4 (M) 4#
Vern, 10 (M) 12#
Rambo, 9 (F) 6#

I've been reading alot of fascinating info on tortoise growth now. I guess there will always be new stuff to learn! And thank you guys for the helpful info. I will just keep spoiling her, and researching red foot care endlessly. I really could never tire of reading about tortoises anyway!
Reading up on how much variation can occur in growth rates from hatchling to adulthood between individuals is good to know.

I'm not sure what you mean by a full-grown adult. When it is sexually mature? Tortoises really never stop growing, although that slows down a lot in later years. I mean, I'm 70, & still don't consider myself as a "full-grown adult!"

Yeah, since I started doing more research on growth variations in the same species, and among different tortoise species, I have learned a lot! I didn't know that they never stopped growing. Interestng.

Reading this makes me feel better, because I was just at the vet and my CH (Scooter) grew 200 grams in approximately 9 months. Her 1 year birthday will be next month (tomorrow I guess). Will take pictures of her party!!!

In June she weighed 67 grams (3 mos). Today, 275.5 grams (9 mos).
