Also ditto on the powersun. But a lot depends on your exact set-up and the type of tortoise(s) you keep. MVBs are great, but not ideal in every situation. A standard tube florescent UVB bulb (like the Repti-Glo 5.0) work fine if all you're looking for is just UVB lighting.

The only ones to absolutely stay away from are the compact florescent bulbs.

I prefer a combination of a standard incandescent bulb to provide heat and light and a seperate fluorescent tube to provide UV. The incandescent provides a hot spot for basking as well as light. The temperature can easily be adjusted as needed by using different wattages of bulbs and moving them inward or outward to and from the basking spot. The fluorescent tube provides better overall lighting and UV distribution as opposed to an MVB lamp that is concentrated, provides poor overall enclosure lighting and forces a tortoise to have to sit directly under it all the time if it needs to absorb UV rays. MVB lamps are an especially poor choice for baby tortoises. MVBs are also much more expensive to replace and have a higher rate of product failure.
