Since Photobucket went nuts and froze up all of my photos it took me some time to go through the hassle of finding a new hosting service (Tinypic---thanks Terry O.!) and then re-loading a bunch of pictures.
Oddly, I just found out that Tinypic is owned by Photobucket. Feh...

Anyway, here are some of my red-cheek mud turtles, Kinosternon scorpioides cruentatum.
These are older photos of a young male I've been raising.

These photos have posted in the past but again, Photobucket has blocked their being used on forums so I'm re-posting them.
OK, the same male about a year later...

Disregard the orange color--its the camera flash bleaching. But do notice that his head has become more flecked with black pigment.
Now just the other day. Much more black infusing into the head pattern. In my experience, this is typical for male red-cheeks as they mature. Eventually his head should be very black with only red flecks remaining.

Once this 'maturing' begins to occur, it happens quickly over a period of only months. In addition the young
male's tail will suddenly lengthen considerably and amorous behavior ensues...
Here he is copulating with Peggy, a six plus year old female of mine.

They are very beautiful! They are a new breed to me.... but I'm not much of a turtle person, more of a tortoise one. :p
