My cousin just gave me a 7 year old male, gulf coast box turtle, he's only lived in dirt/mud in an outside enclosure, until now.

To my knowledge he has never been cleaned, so what can i use in cleaning his skin and shell without harming him,

Also, someone before my cousin has had him to close to a heat lamp or something and he has dark burnt like marks on the back of his shell, any ideas of how to help heal this?

I would just use a soft tooth brush and warm water. Then you can get a better look at him.

Make sure he has a waterer in his habitat that he can get into too. Frequent soaking either forced or voluntary also help to get the old dirt off them.
