Hello,

I really need help identifying what kind of tortoise I have. Age? Gender? and how to take care? It belonged to my neighbor but when they moved they gave it to me and I honestly know nothing about tortoise's. :(

Sulcata. For gender we will need a platoon shot.
Age won't be possible without a hatch date.

Thank you! I Don't know anything about them. They all look the same lol. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to care for it since I know nothing about them or what kind it is. I take it outside during the day and feed it lettuce and small apples and at night I bring it inside my room since it gets really cold, 50 to 60 degrees. Not sure if that's an okay weather for it to be outside so I bring it inside.

He's very shy. Doesn't come out his shell unless he's outside and he makes these weird noise at night like he's calling for another tortoise or something.

He's not calling for another tortoise, they are loners.

The shy and squeaking are likely stress unless you see wetness coming out of his nose. It is normal for them to be shy for a while when given a new area once you get him set up right he will be great. Sullys need a diet of mostly grass and weeds so outside is the best place for him to eat. No apples or fruit, they do not eat sugar foods. He will also need to stay warm so you are doing well bringing him in at night. Try glooking up on here a "heated night box" build it large because he will get big. Here is a web site to help you find safe weeds:

And here is a care sheet

Sulcatas have great personalities once they warm up to you!

Can you get a belly shot in profile? Like a pregnant woman showing off her belly? A plastron shot showing more tail would be helpful too.

Looks like a female. Most likely around five years old, but that's just a guess.

The noise is most likely the start of a respiratory infection. This is a tropical species and they need it warm day and night. Sleeping in your room instead of in a properly heated enclosure is not good.

Where are you? If your climate is warm enough, this tortoise should live outside with a heated night box. Like these:

Wetness does come out its nose. But I've only heard it make that noise twice these past two days. Thank you so much for the helpful information. :)

I have no idea, is there any certain time s/he does this? Or just randomly?

Nope, last night and the night before that was the first time I heard him make that noise when I put him/she in my room. He only does it twice and that's it.

I will build his box home today. :) I live in California but lately it's been very cold outside, 50 to 60 degrees with lots of wind.
