I think it’s a species which have to become more popular. It would be difficult to get new animals in the future (for Europe).
This species isn’t breed regularly because nobody really have idea or a 100% plan to breed them constantly.
I keep a group of 3,5 adult animals at the moment which I have since two years.
This year I’ve got the first eggs. At the moment 3 females laid. ( Two in the water / one normal on the ground under leaves.) I know that the other two females also have an egg inside so I hope they’ll lay in the next weeks too.

It would be great if other keepers of this species share their experiences with this species here so we can learn from each other. Neat looking turlte can you tell us more about it? What size it is as an adult, mostly a water turtle or land turtle? Eating habits?

Difficult to say... full adult I think is between 13-16cm. But I have a female which already laid with 11cm.
You can keep them terrestrial and aquatic. But I think they’re more aquatic. You have to simulate rain and dry season. In the dry season they sit under leaves and do nothing. Their active period is in rain Saison when they breed etc in water. They only breed in water too. I keep them alone in 140L boxes with 3/4 water and 1\ land.
I feed them everything from fish to meat to worms.

Yes I try it. It’s difficult sometimes to understand their behavior. There aren’t many informations about keeping or breeding them. So I think it’s important to understand how those animals live

I have a 2.3 group. No problems getting eggs from them, but haven't been able to hatch any yet, unfortunately. They are quite an interesting and beautiful species. They appear to be quite fragile, but are tougher than they appear.

Cool [emoji106] where are you located? How do you incubate them?
Yes they are very taff for a rainforest species!

Just found a new egg today. All other eggs unfortunately didn’t hatched. My incubator didn’t worked so the temperature was to low.

The egg is from the female which laid the first egg in April. So they can lay two times per year. She needs ca. 8 months between both eggs.

Breeding is also working at the moment. But only two males breed... one male only bites the females.. and I think I have different local forms. So one male only can breed with one female.

i would think a very worthwhile endeavor , as i'd guess most of the platemys platycephala in the hobby are likely wild caught ?

Thank you Yvonne!
Yes I was very happy to get these pictures. I only can gut such pictures with this pair of Platemys. The rest of the animal are to shy.

Next eggs from another female.. unfortunately she laid the egg again in the water... she’s the only individual who doesn’t accept the land area...
