I have noticed that Harley, my female Hermann’s tortoise, has some pink on her plasteron along the growth lines and I was wondering if it looks like part of the normal growth process or if there could be something else. I just got her at the end of October so I don’t really know age, but she’s about 5 1/2 inches and 727g. Harley is eating well and active. She gets soaked every other day and will go in her water dish though I have never seen her actually drink. The basking area is between 90-95.

Pink is often associated with septicemia.
However, I'm pretty sure that I see nothing to be concerned about.
Is the plastron still firm?
Is the animal acting ok?
Is your substrate red mulch?

Her plastron is still firm, and nothing has concerned me activity or strength wise. I did actually have some mixed reptibark and coconut coir which I recently replaced with coconut coir and organic top soil, but I noticed a bit of the pink color before that.

I spoke with an exotics vet earlier today and she believes it is related to some rapid growth so we are just going to watch it for now. If it spreads or gets brighter and/or her activity changes then we will do bloodwork, but it isn’t worth it to stress her out at the moment.
