My tortoise now has respiratory issues from it and it did smell like an air freshener, but i removed it all now. My tortoise got a runny nose and bubbles and there is no other way that it would be other than the pine bark which is supposedly toxic.
How was the vet appt.? How is your tortoise?

Kaapo is doing good! The symptoms disappeared as soon as I removed the bark. We didn't need go to the vet, I called her and she said if it will continue or the symptoms come back then we need to go. But Kaapo had symptoms for only 2-3 hours and now that the bark is gone and I rinsed him from the substrate he is back to his own sweet self ❤️

I'm not sure it was pine bark but my friends family bought some sort of substrate for their new baby Sulcata, and it got very sick.
I've read that pine oil can cause several issues.
I would assume that all pine based bedding is not equal
I just have no first hand experience.
