I have a rescued painted turtle in my pond. Well, I should qualify that with she's mostly in my pond, but I find her a lot of the time in my yellow footed tortoise yard. I haven't got a clue how she's getting out of the pond area, but oh well.

This turtle has seven claws/toes on her right front foot. Looks mighty strange. You can see a bit of a 'dip' in the edge of her carapace right above her right foot which leads me to believe at one time in her life, when she was quite young, she incurred some sort of accident - dog chew, mower, whatever. Every time I rescue her out of the YF yard and see that foot with all it's claws I wonder . . . I know that limbs don't grow back when accidently amputated, but I wonder if toes do. I'm thinking that when she encountered whatever damaged her carapace, her toes also were damaged and during the healing process she just happened to grow a few extra ones.

I'm rubbish at close ups, but here's what I'm talking about:

I like that he's breaking IN! You must have a nice habitat, you're even luring them in!

Likely in YF's yard to lay eggs....????
