You should give that a tort a good long warm soak and while he's soaking read this:

Also, judging by the pictures, you need a better enclosure than a cardboard box. Please read the caresheet thoroughly

I agree with Method89, the torts beak is not really overgrown, its in bad shape though. your tort looks very dry and the beak is crumbling away. Pls read the care sheet posted and follow it as closely as possible, your tort needs a lot more humidity along with daily soaks. You will need to watch the beak carefully and keep it trimmed so it doesnt crack and break further. A vet can help you with this if you can find a decent one anywhere nearby but that might be difficult in idaho.

I think if you are near Boise there are a few places you could take him to. I live up in northern Idaho and I haven't seen anything close to me though. :/
I hope you can get this cute little guy the care he needs!

Judging from the pictures I'd say the tortoise is very small for his age. Setting him up in a large, appropriate enclosure, with optimum care, diet and hydration will go a long way towards helping him grow.

Alright, does this look better? I know
I could probably do more, but I’m not that brave. Also, is there something he could eat on to help his beak stay trimmed?

Alright, how much should I feed him? I have always wondered why he has grown sooooo slow.
