Joe is a Testudo Graeca Graeca and weighs in at over 3kg, so once he warms up he retains heat for a long time and thus keeps going longer even on the coldest days.

He has been outdoors pretty much every day since he came out of hibernation on April 12. Up until about a fortnight ago, the temperatures were regularly dropping below 7C at night and I was bringing him in to our conservatory to sleep (only once he'd gone to sleep in the garden, otherwise there would be trouble!)

Now he sleeps in his Cold Frame:

When I get up, I pull him out and stick him under the heat lamp in his kennel (he won't sleep in it :D) At this time of year, he's usually fully charged by about 11.30am and heads out to eat, graze, drink for the rest of the day.

Once the weather finally decides it is summer, I won't bother with the heat lamp. He'll get enough natural heat from the sun in his cold frame to get him started for the day.

Kent... it was bl**dy freezing yesterday and beautiful sunshine today and Joe has been out throughout. At least we missed out on the snow that hit the west country yesterday!
