Hi all,

I have just found and joined this siye as my partner has recently moved his Spur thighs tortoise in with us. He has had her a while but as he worked away his parents kept her living with them. She has been kept outside in their enclosed garden and let to live and roam there.

since she has come to us I have been trying to research all about her. I am currently building her and outdoor enclosure and looking for advice and ideas of how to make it safe for her and what I can do to make it interesting and nice for her.

I have researched good substrate/diets etc but any more advice would be great. also looking for things to put in to keep her from getting bored and make it more interesting for her.

TIA x

Heated nightbox https://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/what-youll-need-to-build-a-night-box.171435/

Size- make it as big as you can-5m by at 3m at least. As far as substrate your dirt/grass should be fine as long as you don't use chemicals like pesticides or most fertilizers. Do not use gravel torts love to eat it and it can cause impaction. Use the tortoise table for plants, but Hibiscus varieties are cold hardy to zone 4 otherwise potted plants will work. Cover always helps as tort love hide or use as shade on real sunny days (all 3 or 4 of yours) so almost anything could work for that. As far as the nightbox you definitely want one that is secure, heated, and insulated to extend the season or for cold days. Secure from night time critters-y'all have badgers. The nightboxes are sized for bigger torts so you would need to scale down or use an insulated garden shed that you can lock with a hide inside. Sorry for so much I hope it helps

Thank you for taking the time to respond and for all the advice :) I was thinking of getting my partner to fit on some shelter to add to the side of the tortoise house/box he made as the reptile shops close by me only have tiny shelters / hides and are too small. also making a basking platform type thing and make a spot for bathing.
