Hello.

I've got my tortoise for about 3 months now and he is doing fine (his shell is still soft and a little bit squishy but I bought him that way and it's getting better - also, he still sleeps a lot. I'm guessing when spring finally arrives and it will be less cold he won't be sleepy all the time). Anyway, just wanted to check;
I've heard that tortoises eat twice a day, but he only eats once. Quite a lot for his size, but still. Is that a problem or is it normal? He is less than a year old.

I put food out for my baby tortoises once - in the morning. I leave it there all day. Sometimes the babies come out and eat more during the day, sometimes they don't.

It is usual for wild, adult tortoises to eat in the morning then again in the evening, but in my experience, babies usually stay hidden all day.
