I decided to completely redo my terrarium for my Russian Tortoise. After trying to keep the humidity in and all the help from everyone on here, I decided the zoo med wooden enclosure I have for my little guy is not right for him. After some research I made a list of what I need to get to make the best enclosure for my little hatchling. Any opinions are welcome, I can not thanks everyone enough for all the help they have already given me.
First question is, do you think my little guy will be okay in the wooden enclosure he’s in now just until I get paid two weeks from now? Or should I try to get everything like now?
For the main tank I was going to get a 50 gallon (Length 36.6 inches, Width 19 inches and height 18.6 inches). I was going to cover three of the sides with a Forrest terrarium cling.
For the UVB lamp I was going to get a light bar. A Reptisun Terrarium Hood and a Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 HO T5 UVB Lamp, 24 Watt
For the heat lamp I was going to use a Fluker’s Ceramic Heat Emitter. For 50 gallon tank would you recommend a 100-watt or 150-watt? Or should I have two?
To hold the heat emitter I was going to use a zoo med mini dome lamp...I kinda need a little help with this one what would you recommend?
For his water and food dish I was going to use a 10 inch terra cotta dish
Also I am planning on buying a humidifier just in case. If I don’t have to use it then great but if I do I will have it.
Lastly I will be using loose coconut fiber or coconut coir (if I can find it) for substrate. I will have a humid hide along with his Hut to hide in and a few other of his climbing things. I am planning on using his wooden enclosure for when we go outside for a couple hours in the summer...any opinions on this?
Thank you again everyone! I appreciate all the help!
