Hi tort lovers,

My wife and kids went to the pet store yesterday and came home with Ruby, our very first Red Foot. She has already warmed our hearts and we are totally crazy about her. I am so glad I found this site so we can give her the proper care and build her the enclosure she needs to thrive and be happy. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am starting to read through the site and learn more about what she needs and what she doesn't need. There is so much good information here, I am at a loss where to start.

I would have researched before getting Ruby, but she was a surprise and is here now. I need to play a little catch up. We already had an enclosure from when my son's friend gave us a box turtle. The turtle was from the wild and he wasn't eating so we released him back to the wild.

Please don't hesitate to give me suggestion (even if they are simple and known facts) I am new to torts and want to do everything right for Ruby. Happy to say she ate her banana, kale and her tort food.

Thank You all in advance!

We live in Northern VA.

There are a couple of great care sheets here, as well as numerous knowledgeable keepers of redfoots ... I've been better able to take care of Darwin, my redfoot, since finding TFO.

Welcome!

Thanks, we are in the process of getting Ruby a bigger enclosure, her temporary home is a 30 gallon (I think that is the size) fish tank. I am going to get her a 40 gallon reptile tank. I’ll take pictures tonight when I get home.

Hello and welcome!

Here are some links that are great places to start:

If you take some photos of your enclosure we can point out anything we see that might need attention. Include pics of Ruby! We love to see all the new torts!
