My husband worked so hard to finish the outdoor enclosures for my tortoises just in time for Mother's Day. I have a male Russian and a male Hermann's. I would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions for improvement, constructive criticism, etc.
1. 4' x 8' each with a cold frame attached so that each tortoise can get out of the weather. There is a divider in the cold frame to keep them separated. I will put basking lights in as it gets closer to the fall.
2. I put river stone and gravel at the low side to drain better, cypress mulch and organic topsoil at the top side just to give varying terrain.
3. Two hides in each enclosure
4. I planted Mexican Heather and Fountaingrass.
5. Terracotta water dishes
6. Heavy duty wire panels on top of each enclosure.
As suggested by a veteran member, I am gradually increasing their time outside as it has gotten warmer. They will be coming inside at night because I am worried about predators. They will be coming back inside for the winter also.
