May everyone’s dreams and goals come true this year!!!! I just picked up a new giant Mexican Staurotypus triporcatus. Here are some pics of her....I’ve been told she’s a she, but not sure how to tell and thought it was too young. Maybe someone can advise. Looks pretty healthy to me other than a few extra scutes. Anybody have any name suggestions for the little guy/gal? I always was intrigued by these turtles. And their size is impressive to say the least. Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions.

I’m having a hard time getting her to eat any sort of pellets. Tried a bunch of different ones. Hikari, omega one, Mazuri, zoomed, sinking, floating. Nothing. Only thing it eats is chopped up frozen thawed silversides. Any advice. I really want her to eat pellets. Should I just hover her time. Should I withhold all other food?

Well, my musk turtle eats pellets happily, but my mud turtles- who are very similar in many ways to the musks- have been challenging at times.
I know you want to feed pellets, but my turtle will happily assault and gobble down pretty much anything that moves. Earthworms, especially. I think I've read they have predator reflexes to attack and eat things that move. If you start your turtle with something live- earthworm, say, that may "prime the pump" so to speak and get her interested in eating.
Do you know what she was eating before you got her?

Apparently I was told they were eating hikari turtle pellets But I’ve tried those she sniffed them and looks away I might try the tuna water soaking trick. Anybody have any luck with that

Never quit trying. You have the pellets anyway. Soaking them in the tuna water sounds good, as does priming the eating response with something wiggling. Your Turtle is beautiful!! El Guapo which is Spanish for Beautiful guy!

You can try slugs and, if you can get them, live pink mice or pink rats (newborns).
Any bugs too like beetles or crickets may be attractive to him.

Beautiful turtle. I like the name Puff someone listed. She's quite puffy looking in a good way.
As for feeding, try stuffing some pellets in the silversides as many as possible. Maybe once she gets the taste of them she will willingly eat them.
