hello everyone. This is my first real post so bare with me. I dont know what to do. I have a redfoot tort about 6 inches (I believe it is 3/4 years old). I have it currently in a 4x2 tortoise table. In the spring and summer he is outside in a much bigger enclosure. I just got him into this enclosure about 2 weeks ago. I have a 60w heat emitter in his hide area, and a 100w heat emitter on the other end, over the water to keep it warm. I also have a 24 inch uvb tube across the enclosure. All it does is goes into its hide area and stays there. It won’t move, won’t eat, and doesn’t come out unless I take it out. When it is out of its cage, it will walk around and will only eat a few Mazuri pellets. Humidity is between 55-70 and I try to soak it a few times a week. I also spray the enclosure once a day. Am I doing anything wrong? Other than that, he looks healthy. Please any advise is appreciated.

What are the temps in your enclosure?

Cold temps will slow down a tortoise's metabolism, slow down his eating.

80 is the coldest spot. His hide area is a separate compartment and it’s about 85/90 in there. Some of the enclosure goes as high as 100. Other parts are at 80.

Tortoises don't like change and they will sulk. My Tortoise throws tantrums and doesn't eat sometimes when I change things in his enclosure it routine. As long as he's eating a little, is just give him time to get adjusted.

That should be fine ... I don't think you even need the hot end that hot.

I bet it'll be fine after an adjustment period to the new enclosure.

Temperatures approaching 100 degrees is dangerously hot for a Redfoot.
Even your highest humidity reading is low.
What are you offering for food?
Does the animal drink?

Yes. When I soak him I see him drinking. I give him spring mix, collard greens, mango occasionally, dandelion greens, squash, endive, Mazuri pellets, carrots on occasion, red leaf lettuce and various other greens. I have also tried some hard boiled egg to get him to eat, but no luck. He just won’t come out of his hide unless I move him.

So I should put a weaker heat emitter? Is it ok that it’s on top of the water?

Redfoot can eat fruit. *most tortoises can not.
As much as over 60% fruit.
Try some red strawberry. Maybe a little banana.
Fruit is a good way to get a new animal eating. It also works for getting a confused animal to feel comfortable.
You can even wet Mazuri and smash fruit up in it.
Does his/ her poop look normal?

Babies hide a lot.
I dont think it sounds too unusual.
I've had babies I physically had to place right in the middle of the food.
Make sure your temps are 80 to 84,85.
And make sure he has a shady place to hide.
