Hi All,

I found a tortoise in my planter out front. I am guessing someone couldn't care for it anymore and dropped it off. I don't know much about tortoises. Can anyone help me identify the species?Tortiose.jpg

That is a box turtle and they are not native to California, possibly someone's pet that got loose.

Hi, and welcome! That's a young box turtle. It may have been dropped by a bird.

Made him a quick enclosure before my busy week. Don’t want the little guy dying in me. Outdoor because I live in a small condo and my landlord would not be happy with a pet in the home.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I have no clue what I’m doing. Lol!

Also has a little pond inside the log. I read that they like to bask in water. :)

You will need a much bigger enclosure. In the meantime you can toss some earthworms in there for your new turtle to eat. Also I don't see a water dish. Put a dish in there big enough for the turtle to get into and soak itself, like the bottom dish of a terracotta planter.

You could just set the little guy free he’s a wild turtle after all.
