this afternoon i was drying the plastron of max after a lukewarm water soak..... and i noticed this unusual brown spot on his plastron,.... from closer inspection i found out there is a very thin, small crack and the region around the crack is brown........ is this shell rot???? i really am worried now because i haven't seen anything like this before..... i have posted some pics of the affected area.... really sorry for the quality of the pics.... if it's shell rot then what should apply to it??? he is eating normally , active as normal nothing unusual except the crack/brown region..... please Max needs help ASAP.....

temp : 34.5 degree celsius / 95F in his outdoor enclosure

I honestly don't see anything. Shell rot is usually whitish looking so I'm going to say it's more than likely not that. Good luck!

We're going to need a clearer picture. I can't see what you're talking about.

I'm thinking there is something scraping the shell in your enclosure. This is causing abrasion; which is collecting dirt and substrate. Check for a raised stone or brick like object.

Just a theory...I'm no expert.

Good luck.

Sorry...that's really not something that can be addressed here on the Forum. A vet, or an experienced tortoise person needs to see it in real life in order to give you the correct help.

If it is a form a shell rot, you can get some athletes foot cream and cover the area with it. In Florida, we get what is called "scud" down here.
It is very common. It is a fungus that will turn the shell white and if not treated, it could do some superficial shell damage. I have never heard of a tortoise dying because of it.
I am not claiming to be a vet, but I can tell you from first hand experience, it works for me.

well that's exactly the opposite........ it's not white.... not squishy....not compressible ....... it's brown and just as stiff as any part of his shell..., there is just a very tiny little crack out there
