Very cool, but why do they let the dog toss him around so much! One can hope they swapped out the real box turtle for a prop at that part. :)

I'm afraid it was real. I wouldn't let my pet get scratched like that, but it is amazing how well the shell of a box turtle or tortoise can stand up to the strong claws of a carnivore, at least for a while. Not even a mark on it!

I think the only part of the documentary I didn't like was that just before the staged dog "attack," the narrator states that boxies have poor vision. That is not true. Turtles have color vision similar to our own, but what's different is that while our eyes are placed in front for good depth vision, theirs are placed on the side for good field vision. So, although they don't see quite like we do, they nevertheless can see food and predators quite well.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed it! :)
