I have a Russian tortoise. He lives inside the house, and I take him out of his enclosure to walk around the house and eat his food. I've noticed lately that his nails are long, and they hurt when i grab him. Should I take him to the vet to get it done or is it something I can easily do, and if so, how?

If you have the turtle in very bright light, you MAY be able to see the line of blood that runs through the inside of the nail. If you can see it, then its ok for you to try to clip the nails. You clip up to, but not into the red line inside the nail. It sometimes looks black rather than red.

But if you can't see it, I would take the turtle to a vet to have it done.
