This is the second year for our tortoise turkey tradition. It's crazy how much larger and more outgoing they are from last year. I was in a bit of a rush this morning trying to prep food for both human and tortoise so the "turkey" wasn't as pretty as I'd like. Not like it mattered any.. my "girls" were pacing on the food plate in great anticipation. They wouldn't even let me add garnish; it was rained down on them while they dog piled the "turkey".

Loki showed up fashionably late. She didn't care if the turkey was non-existant. All she wanted was to have the plate all to herself.

Btw, Loki hit 9" scl during last month's check-up. I wonder if anyone else raised a two year old, 9 inch redfoot. It's been pretty crazy.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Stay safe and make sure to leave room for dessert!

They look terrific, and I love the "turkey."

I wonder if Troggy will get that big by two years. He's already over 4 inches at not-quite 8 months. Terrifying!

Loki is huge for the age. What do you feed?
Also what is that plant hanging down in the 4th photo.
They all look good BTW. :D

I was very conservative with what I fed them for the first 8 months. Very low on protein and fruits. I was always concerned that they'd focus on the "treats" so it was mostly weeds, flowers and dark leafy greens. I'm more liberal, now, when adding other items. They get a heap of Mazuri once a week, twice if I run out of greens. Fruits are still on the low end.

The hanging plant is a nepenthes. I have two types but many, many established cuttings hanging all over the enclosure. They've helped with keeping gnat populations lower and humidity levels higher while making the enclosure look more beautiful.

Thanks everyone!

I totally copied your "turkey" for my guys this year. All I have to say is I can't believe how yours turns out so well! At least my guys didn't really care that theirs was dis-formed haha. Thanks for all the great ideas as always!

What did you put in yours? Mine consisted of Mazuri, Marion and plain pumpkin enough to get a consistency that I could sculpt with. And yeah, my graceful ladies didn't care what it looked like either since the first thing that they wanted to do was to play "queen of the hill" so the winner could eat the whole thing. Hope you and yours had a great weekend holiday!

Hi pfara. What is the history with Loki and soaking. Do you soak often? Or did you at any point? Thank you.

For the next 6-12 months, I probably soaked them twice a week and on measurement days. I only spot soak them every so often now just to look them over, shine their shells, give them personal massages :D

Water temperatures are always measured by an infrared temp gun at around 95F.

And here are more pictures on how they're adjusting (Because I know this forum loves pictures!):

Loki and Sunny found the new basking spot:

If you look closer, Loki is starting to marble. So, I'm going to guess that either his father has some Brazilian in him or he just wants to marble. Sunset is also starting to marble, as well.

Punch hiding at the base of some tradescantia:

Punch taking advantage of rough terrain:

Lovely pics of lovely torts! GOD bless.

Are they able to live in one enclosure without bullying/fighting, or were they together just for the aim of taking a photo? Appreciate an answer.
Many thanks.

Wow. I'm impressed with your detail to data recording. I'll look at this again in detail tonight after work.
One more question.
How old, what size and weight is your smallest redfoot? Also I'm guessing you followed the same routine regarding soaking with the smallest too.
Thanks again.

I recieved all four from Vicki Hale and they've co-existed in the same enclosure for their whole lives in my care.

Jingle is my smallest. Weight and length as of today: 35.55oz and 7-1/8". Yes, all torts have been treated almost the same. I mostly took the hands off approach with them, so soaks were usually whenever they were out of hiding. If you'd like Jingle's soak log, I can provide that, too.

My notes indicate that she self-soaked a good deal. However, she was always the only one roaming around compared to the others.
Thank you. :).

Pfara, I am shocked at how great your notes are! All I do is record their weights once a week, I would say i would step it up on my notes but I wont haha. Vicki really does produce some great torts, I got my Loki and Gus Gus from her.

To be honest, I wish I could have been even more detailed. The only things I wrote down daily were the temp/humidity readings (and it wasn't even taken consistently), monthly stats, the foods fed, soaks and whether they pooped during, emergencies or things out of the ordinary, outdoor times, random comments or changes to the enclosure.

I figured that I had no idea what I was doing, that I would at least write down general information until I *did* kinda know what I was doing lol.. And if things went downhill, I could show the journal to the vet or to people on here to see what I could change.
