It is gaining about 3 grams every 2 weeks. Was 23 grams when i got it April 9th and today weighed in at 37 grams. She/he is an aggressive eater. Shell is staying smooth so far. had her in her outdoor digs today, she is starting to like the ourdoor pen i let her get some sun bathing on the weekends.20160522_105906.jpg

Well my margie is 48 grams now. She is getting more outdoor time in her new 4'x5' enclosure. I am going to add some sight barriers and more plants but with the 2 burrows and 1 log hide she is just smitten. She is doing awesome! She is very outgoing for such a small tort and really enjoying being outdoors. I need to plant a bit more but she likes the room to run plus i left some small elevations in her enclosure since the margies like to climb20160702_141815.jpg20160702_141900.jpg

well I have had her 4 months and a week and she has more than tripled her weight. She was 23 grams when I got her and today she is 71 grams after a good soak. :) post a picture shortly but her being outdoors full time since July this summer has really made a huge difference. Our temps and humidity have been perfect this year in Atlanta Ga so it is been way to easy. She is doing so well, thanks to Chris Leone for his great guidance. :)

Pics as promised..smooth growing, we have had just the right humidity for her. Sad that the shadows are changing and fall is soon upon us. My torts love the summer, being left alone except for their needs. just being able to be torts as close to being in the wild environment as i can create for them in my backyard.

Well she's getting bigger and heavier, i say "she" but i am not gender bias. I really do not mind at all if she gets 13" big and ends up male. She weighs 130 grams today. She was 23g when she arrived first part of April this year. Her shell is smooth and beautiful! I am a bit partial and a proud keeper of her!

A month and a half older update. My margie is 184 grams now and turning into a yearling size. It is doing so good loves to burrow under this rock. Shell is still growing very smooth, i keep her between 70 to 50 degrees humidity with a early morning late afternoon while the lights are on to emulate evaporating dew in the outdoors. It is obvious she adjusts her depth and place in the substrate to get the temps and moisture requirements she needs. I try my best to keep areas of different temp/moisture ratings so she can take care of what she needs. Pretty cool seeing her thrive and grow. I will have had her a year in April couldn't be happier with this choice of hatchling to add to the group I care for. 20170114_093211_001.jpg 1484405708955172799922.jpg 20170114_093256.jpg

I cannot wait until she is big enough to give her a large amount of the back yard! She will help me keep the weeds under control.:) she was munch'n on some of those weeds this morning couldn't taking some picture of her. Hope you enjoy as much as i do.

Those "early childhood" months can be hard especially at the beginning, but once you have the enclosure, temps/humidity, diet figured out, it is so much fun watching them put on the weight, and grow, and grow.., and their distinct little personalities emerge and go into full bloom... Your little margie is absolutely gorgeous!!!!! I did have my I on this species but ended up with the RF bcs they are my daughter's first pets and she wanted a sulcata. Well, that was just not practical for a family living in suburbs, so her #2 was the Redfooted and we love them to pieces! I don't know that much about the Marginated, but yours is so beautiful I'm going to have to do some reading:)

I love redfoots! They are beautiful and such clowns. :) The marginated is about the same size as a redfoot. They eat alot of our native weeds so real easy to feed them the right stuff here.

Oh hey. I also have a marginated tortoise that's just about a year old. But he only weighs about 67g. I'm a bit worried that he's underweight. I also got mine at 20g. How much do you feed yours? Is it just a case of every tortoise is different?

Almost every tortoise grows at a different pace. As long as he seems healthy otherwise (Eating, drinking, pooping and walking) there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

I have been so busy haven't had a chance to post any updates or participate in much more than work and taking care of my klan(dogs, cats, torts, and koi).
wanted to post an update on my Margie. First things first, She is a He lol! he flashed me this spring so the mystery is no more. :) I am good with either sex so couldn't be happier with this guy. He is so laid back and chill -compared to my eastern hermanns. :) I love the different personaliti20181010_212132.jpg 20180728_154832.jpg es of my torts.
the second pic is from July this year the first pic was the night we got rain from Hurricane Michael a few weeks ago. My sully, Hermanns and Maginated Torts loved the rain. it had not rained for weeks. The Russians were all in their house avoiding the rain. :) hope everyone is doing well, cannot wait to get caught back up with the tortoise community.

My annual spring updates!
Took some shots of my 4 yr old margie, he is about 8.5" long. Flashed me plus has a long tail so he is a Beautiful boy. I think he will get even bigger. Got him from Chris Leone. Hoping he grows to the monster size of Chris, huge Margie named Mons. Lol! It reminds me that i should ask Chris eho he was his pop, see if he has a chance to be 15" big.
Thanks for letting me share my shelled family!
