I have a feeling this is pretty common BUT . . . how do you keep mold out of the water dish? I do change it daily but it is still there. I scrub with a scratcher and peroxide then rinse well before refilling but the spots remain. Is this an issue?

You mean algae, right? Algae isn't harmful. I dump the waterers in my outside yards then refill them with the hose. Unless they have been pooped in, then I scrub them with a brush. But algae doesn't bother me or the tortoises.

I've been using the glazed saucers I found at Home Depot. They just wipe clean no matter what gets on them.

I don't use the glazed ones because they don't offer the tort any traction I don't want any issues with my little ones not being able to get out or right themselves if they flip. It's just a guess but I bet the smooth surface doesn't help as much with keeping the nails trimmed.
