My two beautiful boys were stolen under absolutely horrific circumstances in September 2019.

I've started a Facebook page but sadly have got no further in finding out they are safe and well despite searching desperately for almost a year and a half now.

Help find Harold and Enrique (facebook.com)

Their temporary host has actually threatened to me that she has killed them ?

The police have not helped so far. The initial allegation of theft was filed and I have had to complain to have it reopened, but things do not seem to be moving forwards at all.

If anyone has any advice at all or knows where they are I am offering £200 for information or their safe return.

I have the same questions and concerns as Tom posted.
If you know who has them, then with proof of them being yours, the police should escort you to retrieve them.
Explain what happened in more details and location.
Its not likely whoever has them killed them unless by accident. They could sell them easily.

Or some horrible person doesn't have them and is tormenting the OP for some reason.

Do you have an animal control authority where you are? Oftentimes, they get more involved in searching for lost &/or stolen animals than the police. If they find your torts, they probably call in the police to assist in recovering animals if the thief won't willingly give them up.

I saw you facebook group, you had a post about who stole them and how. For everyone wondering, here is their post on facebook:

*OPEN LETTER TO JANE*

Dear Jane,

You agreed to temporarily look after my two tortoises while I was severely ill in hospital because my mum was too ill to cope.

Enrique and Harold were like my children. As you know, I called them my “boys”. They were always there for me, as animals are, throughout a terrifyingly violent and abusive relationship during which I nearly died on multiple occasions. You know all about this.

I raised my two boys from small fragile babies into active, boisterous and happy young tortoises. I grew plants to feed them with and spent hours reading about what they could and couldn’t eat. I created an enclosed safe space in my garden that they could call their own without escaping. I built them their own tortoise table with a separation panel for when they were naughty and several obstacles and tunnels to keep them entertained. They loved their warm baths and cucumber treats. I worked a stressful job from home listening to them clatter about in their table while letting them outside in my breaks, and I loved every minute of it.

Now here we are a year and a half later and you are still refusing to tell us what you did with them, and why you would prey upon vulnerable people and their pets like this. Why you would send late night text message threats of violence to myself and my sister, who has young children who might see them. Even to our elderly mother with severe Parkinson’s who probably doesn’t have much longer left to live and now lives in fear of you turning up at her address, as you have done before.

Even after police involvement, you lied. You claimed you rehomed Harold and Enrique in a Facebook group, but no one in the group knew anything about them. You then claimed they had been rehomed twice and – only after we begged you on multiple occasions – gave me the number of someone you claimed was called Scott. “Scott” sent me fake Google images of sea turtles which come up on the first page of a Google images search. “Scott” recently began texting me horrific threats demanding large sums of money and holding my animals to ransom at all times of the day and late at night. Can you even begin to imagine what this feels like for me?

We believe that you are behind this number trying to divert attention away from yourself. After all, the phone is never switched on and the SIM is unregistered.

What actually happened to my tortoises Jane? Did they escape or die while in your care? Do you still have them and don’t want to let them go? Did you lose the details of the person you sent them to, or charge them large amounts of money and don’t want to be caught for it? Are you involved in a tortoise trafficking ring? We certainly fear this might be the case since as you know, it is illegal to sell them without their documents, which you have never had.

All we do know is that you are clearly trying to hide *something* and at one point you offered me replacement tortoises in an obvious effort to make me go away.

You even tried to report me to the police for the simple act of looking for my boys, and you have removed all of the missing posters in the area. We put these up as a direct response to the disturbing ransom requests by “Scott” and threats made personally by you that you killed my animals and I should “pop over with a shovel” to look for them.

How could anyone with a shred of human decency think that this kind of behaviour is acceptable?

We have played this merry dance with you for a year and a half now.

We are not going to give up on finding out the truth.

You won’t get away with treating humans and animals so despicably forever, Jane.

I will never stop looking for my boys.

I feel so sorry for you. We all love our tortoises, and I hope your tortoises will return safely to you. All i'm going to say, is that they may have sold your tortoises to another owner. I'll try to help you the best I can.

Thanks everyone, this seems like a lovely forum. I'm trying to get the police to look at this again. They did interview Jane at the time, but she provided false information about my tortoises' whereabouts, and this horrific saga has continued ever since. I guess my main reason for posting on here was to check no one has rehomed a couple of young male Hermann's in Shropshire from someone called Jane in Kynnersley, although they might have exchanged hands a few times by now.

Failing that, going to the papers is definitely an option. The difficulty here being that after all she has done, Jane has reported me to police for harassment for simply trying to find out where my boys went :(Goodness only knows what she has said to them. All I have done is made polite requests for information via letters and text messages, still remaining civil when she has become abusive, and have put up posters in the local area which she then takes down. It really seems as if she is trying to hide something. Absolutely terrible situation - I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

This is no good to OP now, but some valuable advice from a shelter worker: "Always pay to board your animals." Money may not save your animals from being stolen, but it holds the other party accountable in the legal system. Authorities have no interest in pet disputes because they are so common.
