I have heard about many things people do to keep there torts busy, and I'm wondering if a mirror would be safe. Would it cause my male Russian to get territorial to himself/mirror? He enjoyed looking at himself when he sees one, but what happens if it is all the time?

People give caged birds mirrors all the time and think nothing of it.

I say, if your tortoise accepts the other 'tortoise' in his enclosure and isn't stressed about it, then go for it. But if he wants to fight it, I would remove it.

I once put a mirror next to my Iguana and he practically went crazy. Head bobbing, ramming... poor guy didn't realize he was hating on himself. :p

I did this with my box turtle, except it was a reflective piece of metal and I placed it on the floor. He always exhibits curiosity staring down into the blurred reflection.
