Does he seem overweight in this pic to anyone else? Not to be rude :)

I was thinking the same thing. His legs seem very thick. Could they be puffy/swolen due to sickness?

I posted this story Monday evening (Tues morn?) on a previous post of his birthday celebration. I have been visiting Methuselah for the past 40 years or so and he was a beautiful, gentle boy. I will have to try to find some pics that I took on recent visits and get them posted so you can all enjoy him as much as I did.

I heard this story on NPR this morning, so I'm glad you posted the article here. Sorry to hear this beautiful tortoise died this week, but I'm glad he lived such a long life. I hope he had the opportunity to breed as well. I found it interesting that this tortoise was doing so well in a northern state like South Dakota! I've never been to Reptile Gardens there, but they must have had a nice facility for him.
