RE: Manouria - The continuing Burmese saga

Since losing the baby a couple days ago, I've been pretty diligent in checking the incubators every day and spritzing the eggs with water to aid any other hatchings. WHOO-HOO!! Another baby is pipping today! and he's still ALIVE!!!!! These babies are from the first clutch that was laid by my 65lb oldest female. These are the eggs I thought had gotten too hot because the nesting substrate was fermenting.

DOIN' THE HAPPY DANCE!!!!

Thought you might like to see a picture. The egg pipping on the right is the dead one...I guess I'm hoping for a miraculous resurrection.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the "her"!!! She's out now, but the yolk sac is pretty big and I don't want to disturb her that much until it resorbs. Tomorrow I'm going in to have my kidney stones zapped, so no picture tomorrow, but hopefully, I'll feel back to my old self on Thurs and I'll take a pic then. Maybe by then there will be more to take pictures of!!!

Yvonne what I do with a tortoise with a big yolk sack is, Get a small plastic container. Get some triple antibiotic ointment and smear a good film all over the bottom. Than put the tortoise in. This way it keeps the yolk sack supple until it's absorbed.
I don't like keeping tortoises with yolk sacks on anything wet as sometimes they can absorb to much water through the yolk sack.

Thanks. I've just put them on moist paper towells in a clean container. The triple antibiotic ointment sounds like a very good idea.

Here's a picture of my only child. I was a little too close, hence its a little blurry (the wadded up paper towel in background is quite clear...lol!!)

A friend of mine in another state has just hatched out some Mep and his incubation period was sixty eight days.

Yea!!! Congrats on the new little one. I can't wait to see pics as s/he grows. Are you going to keep her? How are you feeling after being zapped?

Well, because she's an only child, I'll have to keep her!! If any more hatch out, I'll sell them. This baby doesn't seem really tip top. She's sort of lethargic. She does move from one side of the tub to the other occasionally, but just doesn't seem as thrifty as she should. Today will be the first time I offer her some food. We'll see if she has an appetite.

RE: Emmie

This is Little Emmie, the only child that hatched out of over 60 eggs. My sister, Maggie, is taking care of her because the baby wasn't doing well here with me. As you can see, she's thriving under Maggie's care. Maggie has a normal-sized lady hand and little Emmie is almost as big as Maggie's palm. That's at only 2 months of age. I tried to move this thread to "Manouria - the continuing saga", but my moderator skills aren't up to speed yet.
