Male Burmese Star - how big to breed?

Hi All,

I looked at previous threads and could not find a satisfactory answer.

I have a female (~12" long, ~9 years old, fertile), and a male (~6 inches long, ~3 years old) and while I know the male is still too small I'm wondering if anyone can report the smallest breeding size for a male they know of?

I house them separately but briefly introduced them today, and the male is definitely interested! However it seems like he needs at least a year or two before he is big enough to mount the female.

Any thoughts on how big the male needs to be before he's ready?

My smallest males were 7-8" when I saw them breeding. The larger ones were 8-9". My biggest is around 10". All were 4 years old when I got eggs and hatchlings form them.

Both of my males were approximately 1000g and only 3 years old when I got fertile eggs from my 4 year old female.
