I would wait until you get moved. Its stressful for a tortoise to have to change habitats. He gets all settled into his "new digs" then gets uprooted and has to start all over again in a new place. Stress sometimes leads to an upper respiratory infection.
When you get all settled into your new place in SLO, you can contact Bob Thomas at the California Turtle & Tortoise club. He is the adoption person for the TOOSLO chapter. His number is 805 481-5222. I'm not sure if that chapter wants to take a look at your yard or not, but most chapters do like to perform a yard inspection, just to be sure that its a safe and fitting place to house a tortoise.
