Hi all

I'm looking to source out any Reeves turtle breeders out there so I can pick their brain. I have owned many different turtles/tortoises but have settled on keeping and possibly breeding Reeves turtles I have a male about 4 years old and a female age is unknown other than older than 2 years of age (I'm aware she may not be sexually mature but I like to be prepared)

somethings i'm hoping to get help with;

how have you set up your turtles, tank, nesting box ect

do you cool or adjust the temperatures throughout the season?

do is your setup indoors or do you keep them outside?

is your nesting box accessible 24/7 or do you remove the turtle and place in a separate nesting box?

these are just some of my many questions, I will upload pictures of what i have in the next day or so

thank you in advance

I have never bred turtles before, but I did some research on Reeves turtles a while back because they sounded like they would be interesting, interactive turtles to have around.

These are some of the better resources I located. Hopefully something in here will be of use to you.

Since you live in Canada , winter enclosure temp shouldn’t drop below 0 C . Safe hibernation temp for reeves based on my experience is around 0C to 10C
(32 F to 50F )
They start eating and active once temperature rise above 15C (around 60F)
For basic care , you can treat them same as most North American turtles . Climate in their native range is similar to Eastern US , from NY to GA.

I suggest provide a good size land area 24/7 , otherwise they might lay eggs in water .

They are one of the easiest turtles to breed . In China turtle farms producing millions of hatchlings every year .
