I have been considering a Russian tortoise for some time and am looking at different options for finding an adult.

Tortoise Supply has gotten good reviews on this site. The adults that they sell are wild caught, but the site states that they have been de-wormed. What do you think of ordering a wild-caught adult from a reputable business? The idea of shipping a tortoise makes me a bit anxious, especially to frigid Minnesota in December.

There are also two different reptile fairs coming up near me in the Twin Cities. One seems to be pretty big:

One business that will be there, FangnFur, has good reviews on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/fangnfur/reviews/?ref=page_internal

I can request a tortoise and they will bring it to the fair. I'm just not sure about it. I gather from a question I posed last year that the tortoises will probably be wild caught if they're at a reptile fair. I am not wholly opposed to a wild-caught animal, but I'd prefer it to have already been treated for parasites.

I have a table mostly ready, and I can pick up the lights and the substrate either at a fair or at the local reptile shop.

Ideas or suggestions?

I would stick with Tortoise Supply. They are very knowledgeable and take good care of there animals. They will also work with you to make sure everything is set up right.

I wouldn't buy and have shipped in the winter, specially too Minnesota or any cold northern state. Just too cold and if it got delayed, which can happen a lot in winter, it could be fatal. Why not wait till spring when it's much safer?
