Those flared scutes are typical. Looks like chew damage above the head. My old gulfie has that, too, but not quite as bad.

Two male gulf coast turtles cannot live together, and in a group gulfies are aggressive breeders, so I can't adopt him.

Yes, the flaring is normal for gulfies. He's beautiful! I'd love to adopt him.

Okay, glad to know the flare is normal. I shall put that in my box turtle notebook.

I would adopt him too, but I don't know nearly as much about gulfies as I do easterns and three-toeds. Plus, he's male. I could take in more females for my female enclosure after quarantine, but I can't keep making male enclosure after enclosure after enclosure. I know I have space, but not that much.
